Buying guide

Almost nine square metres, 8.75 m² to be exact. At 250 x 350 cm (about 8ft 2in x 11ft 6in), a rug carries a whole sofa landscape or a long dining table. It gives an open-plan space a clear centre. All designs offered at this size are hand-knotted oriental rugs in 100% wool.

A 250x350 Rug in a Large Lounge

Here the whole seating group stands on the rug, coffee table included. That looks calmer than a small rug lying only in front of the sofa. Allow roughly 30 cm of free floor on every side, which means the room itself should measure at least about 3.10 x 4.10 m before this size makes sense, otherwise the edges run up against skirting boards and furniture along the walls. Big seating areas get more ideas from our living room rugs collection.

Several designs are knotted from hand-spun wool with a very low pile, and some sit a little higher. Knot by knot. That takes time, and you can see it in the slightly irregular lines that a hand-knotted 250 x 350 cm rug shows when you look closely. Our wool rugs show more pieces in this material across all sizes.

Around a Long Dining Table

Let the rug overhang the table by roughly 60 cm on all sides. Take a 220 x 100 cm table. That gives exactly 340 x 220 cm, so a 250 x 350 cm rug even suits a table with eight chairs. A short pile helps when chairs are pushed back. If the table is round, round rugs often look more natural.

With Light Walls and Floors

Nine square metres set the tone. Red is the classic for oriental patterns and feels warm next to wood and dark furniture. Cream lifts it. Blue or black adds a strong accent when walls and floor are pale.

When the Room Is Smaller

No jute here. No gabbeh or viscose either. They come one step down as a 240 x 340 cm rug. Narrower rooms suit rugs measuring 200 x 300 cm, and very large rooms can take an extra large rug of 300 x 400 cm.

Frequently asked questions

How big is 250 x 350 cm in feet?

Roughly 8ft 2in x 11ft 6in.

Will doors catch on it?

With most designs, no, as they lie very flat. A few sit a little higher, so measure the gap under the door first.

Are these Persian rugs?

They carry Persian pattern names, but according to the product details they are knotted in India, a few in Afghanistan.
