A rug in 240 x 340 cm (about 7ft 10in x 11ft 2in) carries a complete seating group or a dining table with all its chairs, so that every piece of furniture in that zone stands on it. A 240 x 340 cm rug under the dining table
Here is how the maths works. With a table of 90 x 160 cm you get 75 to 90 cm of rug all round, so the chairs stay on it even when pushed back. That suits a table for six. With eight chairs you are better off with an extra large rug of 300 x 400 cm. Flat cotton kilims let chairs glide easily, while a round dining table usually looks calmer on a round rug.
In the bedroom
