Chairs get pulled out and pushed back every single day. Somebody spills juice, and after dinner there are crumbs under the table. That is why a dining room rug has a harder life than the one in front of your sofa. Around 320 of our rugs are suitable for the dining room. Most are rectangular, 93 are round.
Synthetic fibre and wool make up the bulk of the range. Jute and cotton follow, plus a small number in viscose.

Plan on 60 to 70 cm of extra rug on every side of the table. It sounds like a lot. Yet only then do the back legs of a chair stay on the rug when someone gets up, instead of dropping off the edge.
Plenty of people search for a 200 x 300 cm size. In our range that format is usually 200 x 290 cm, and the matching designs are collected under 200x300 rugs. A table for six of roughly 90 x 160 cm needs 240 x 340 cm instead. If eight of you regularly sit round a long table, go up to 300 x 400 cm so that even the chairs at the ends stay on the rug.
Rugs for a round dining table
Round with round, square with square. That is honestly most of the rule. A round table about 80 cm across sits well on a rug of Ø 200 cm, because the chairs still have room all the way round. You can choose round shapes in a sisal look woven from 80 % jute and 20 % cotton, in handwoven wool or as flat cotton kilims. More choice is waiting among our large round rugs.
Square and oval dining room rugs are rarer. There are 10 square and 7 oval designs, which is still enough for a table with equal sides.
Living with crumbs and spills
Flatweaves make the least work. Our cotton kilims lie very flat, so crumbs stay on top and vanish with one pass of the vacuum. They are woven from recycled cotton.
Synthetic fibre takes up very little moisture, which makes spilt juice easy to blot. Always work from the outside in. Viscose is more delicate. It has a soft sheen but reacts to liquid, so keep it for a quiet dining corner without toddlers. On colour, a mid tone or a pattern hides marks far better than pale cream ever will.
Handwoven wool with its fuller pile feels lovely underfoot. Chairs move a little less freely on it, though.
Where dining meets kitchen
Many dining areas run straight into the kitchen. In front of the worktop a narrow kitchen runner does a better job, and further designs for the cooking zone sit among our kitchen rugs.
Wooden table and rattan chairs? A jute rug looks very natural with them. Our pure jute designs are handwoven with a short pile and lie flat enough for chairs. If you like to eat outside on warm evenings, an outdoor rug for the patio could be worth a look. Reduced dining room rugs turn up regularly in our rug sale, and every order is dispatched within 24 hours on working days.
Frequently asked questions
Will chairs catch on a wool rug?
A little more than on a flat kilim, since the pile is fuller. Felt pads under the chair legs make a real difference and protect the wool too.
Is 160 x 230 cm big enough under a dining table?
Only for a very small table. Add 60 cm on every side, otherwise a chair tips over the edge as soon as you push it back.
Which colour hides crumbs?
Taupe and grey forgive a lot. So does any pattern.
