Synthetic Fiber Rugs
Polyester and polypropylene take up hardly any moisture. For many households that is the main reason to choose a synthetic rug, especially with children, a dog or a busy hallway. Our range goes from soft shaggy pile to a flat weave you can even take outside, and the most down-to-earth option is the polypropylene rug with a short pile.

Polypropylene vs polyester rugs
Synthetic is not all the same. Polyester can be spun into fine microfibre that feels silky. Polypropylene is a bit firmer. Some designs blend the two, for example 80% polypropylene with 20% polyester. If shine is what you are after, look at a viscose rug, since that fibre catches the light far more than polyester.
The flat rug made of recycled PET works indoors and out. Strictly speaking it is not one of the polypropylene outdoor rugs people often search for. It is polyester. Further designs for balcony and garden are gathered under outdoor rug.
Which pile for which room?
The short-pile designs do well under a dining table and in the hallway, where wet shoes and dropped crumbs are part of daily life. The silky and the shaggy ones belong in front of the sofa. You will find more ideas for the seating area among our living room rugs.
Rectangles from 80 x 150 cm to 200 x 290 cm are the most common sizes, with 240 x 340 cm for larger rooms. Runners mostly measure between 60 x 180 cm and 75 x 240 cm. Round shapes from Ø 80 cm to Ø 200 cm complete the range, and every circle in every material sits on our round rug page.
Beige and cream are the colours you see most. Pale natural tones of all kinds are collected under beige rug.
Cleaning and everyday care
Lots of stains come out with lukewarm water and a little mild detergent. Dab, don't rub. Long pile needs a smooth nozzle without a brush, while short pile is fine with the normal floor head.
Washing a polypropylene rug in the machine is not an option here. None of these designs goes in the drum. For a rug that does, look at our machine washable rugs.
Rug or wall-to-wall flooring?
Flooring glued from wall to wall stays behind when you move out. A loose rug simply comes with you. A polypropylene rug on hardwood floors keeps the boards as they are, and the room still gets warmer and quieter. You can also swap it once the furniture changes.
Frequently asked questions
Is polypropylene any good in a hallway?
Yes. It takes up hardly any moisture, and with its short pile it vacuums easily. That suits a spot with lots of foot traffic.
Which one has the longest pile?
The machine-woven polyester shaggy.
Can I throw one in the washing machine?
No, none of the rugs in this range. Use lukewarm water and a little mild detergent on stains instead.
