Four square metres, as long as it is wide. A 200 x 200 cm rug (about 6ft 7in x 6ft 7in) belongs where the furniture is arranged in a square too. Two sofas at a right angle, for example, or a square dining table, or an open play area in the middle of the room.
In rooms like these a rectangle soon looks too short on one side and too long on the other. The square keeps the same distance to every wall. In a room of about 3 x 3 m, half a metre of floor stays free all round. We have 16 square designs in this size. More than half are wool.
Where a 200x200 rug fits
At a square dining table of 80 x 80 to 90 x 90 cm, which leaves 55 to 60 cm on each side for the chairs. With two sofas at a corner, both stand on it with their front feet and the coffee table goes in the middle. A classic living room layout for a square 200 x 200 cm rug.
Is your living area more elongated? Then a rug 200x250 or a 160x230 rug suits it better. Further planning help sits with the living room rugs. Round tables call for one of our round rugs.
Material and pile
Wool dampens footsteps and feels warm. Its pile still counts as short, so chairs with felt pads move over it easily. You will find more designs among our wool rugs. Wool also offers the most colours here, including blue and turquoise, even yellow.
The four materials side by side:
- wool, handwoven, fuller pile, many colours
- jute, handwoven, short pile, beige
- polyester shaggy, machine-woven, deep pile, in pink and black among others
- polypropylene, machine-woven, fuller pile, white
For a really soft play area, go for the shaggy.
