A rug turns a room into a home
A hallway that finally feels bright. A kitchen where you love to stand barefoot. A runner that's exactly the five metres you were looking for. We read this in the reviews again and again, and it's exactly why we do what we do.
What our customers really experience
Honestly, we're not perfect. But this is what our customers tell us once the rug is down on the floor.
On colour (does it look like the photos?):
„The rug is pleasantly soft and looks high quality. The colour matches the photos too, and I really like it.“★★★★★ Gabbeh Uni wool rug, August 2026
On thickness (isn't cotton too thin?):
„Pure cotton, but not floppy or thin, just high quality and soft. A treat to walk across barefoot.“★★★★★ Mia kilim rug, January 2026
Everyday life in the kitchen:
„Doesn't shed fluff, easy to vacuum or sweep. Gives the kitchen a really inviting feel.“★★★★★ Mia kilim rug, January 2026
„Such a nicely matched patchwork rug colour-wise! Looks great in my kitchen :-)“★★★★★ Kilim Chindi runner, September 2026
When something does go wrong:
„Cat accidents came out easily with Frosch stain spray, no visible residue, and it vacuums well, all thanks to the quality of the wool.“★★★★★ Gabbeh Uni wool rug, September 2026
On workmanship:
„Very well made, no weaving flaws, everything exact … it's also a slightly thicker rug, not a thin rag.“★★★★★ Rag rug, July 2026

After weeks of use:
„Delivery took two days. The rug has now been down for 2 months. We're very happy with the quality.“★★★★★ Breeze high-pile runner, October 2026

And what if it doesn't work out?
We know that not every order is right first time, and things don't always run smoothly for us either. A rug is a natural product, often handmade, and it travels rolled up to reach you. Here we say honestly what reviews criticise, why it happens and what we do about it. And we ask for a little understanding.
The colour looks different from the photo
Light, screens and rooms change every colour, and no two handmade rugs are exactly alike. If you don't like the colour at home, you have 30 days to send the rug back.
The rug has a smell after unpacking
Jute and wool are natural fibres and have a smell of their own at first, which usually fades once the rug has been aired. If a rug smells unpleasant and it doesn't go away, we count that as a quality defect. Write to us and we'll find a solution together.
Waves or curling corners
Your rug travels rolled up so that it arrives safely. Give it a few days to lie flat. On smooth floors, a non-slip rug pad slightly smaller than the rug helps.
Our tip: Roll the rug up the opposite way, pile side out, and leave it to rest for a short while. Once unrolled again, the weave relaxes and even stubborn corners settle flat on the floor.
A few centimetres' difference
Handwoven rugs aren't made on a machine, so small differences in size and shape come with the territory. If the difference is bigger than that, we'll take the rug back.
Jute and wool shed a little at first
Natural fibres shed a little in the first few weeks. Regular hoovering helps; on jute, switch off the brush bar. If a few threads stick up, don't pull them. Trim them with scissors.
Why we ship with GLS
Now and then a delivery doesn't go the way it should, and that annoys us as much as it does you. We chose GLS on purpose. DHL and UPS would be a lot more expensive for large rugs, and we'd have to add that to the price. This way you get your rug at the best price. If something goes wrong, get in touch with your order number and we'll look into it.

A family business, not an anonymous retailer
We've been trading in rugs since 2001, first wholesale, now direct to you. Every rug leaves our own warehouse in Bargteheide near Hamburg. Almost 100,000 square metres of rugs are stored there, which is nearly 14 football pitches when rolled out.
Questions and criticism about jaloom
Is jaloom trustworthy?
jaloom is a family business from Bargteheide near Hamburg. We've traded in rugs since 2001 and have sold online directly to you since 2019. Over 3,000 happy customers have given us five stars.
How good is the quality of the rugs?
90% of the reviews that mention quality are positive. Every rug page says what it's made of, how it was made and where it comes from. Handmade rugs can differ a little in size and colour, which is part of the craft.
Do jute rugs smell?
Jute is a natural fibre and has a smell of its own at first, which usually fades once the rug has been aired. If a rug smells unpleasant and it stays that way, we treat it as a quality defect. Write to us via the contact page.
My rug has ripples. What can I do?
After transport, a rug needs a little time. You can speed things up by rolling it up once in the opposite direction to how it was delivered, pile side out, and leaving it to rest for a short while. Afterwards it usually lies much flatter, corners included. On smooth floors, a non-slip rug pad helps too.
Why does jaloom ship with GLS?
DHL and UPS would be a lot more expensive for large, heavy rugs, and we'd have to add that to the price. With GLS you get your rug at the best price. You can give permission to leave your parcel in a safe place directly on the GLS site.
What do I do if I don't like the rug?
You have 30 days to return your rug, even if you simply don't like the colour or pattern. Write to us and we'll explain the next steps.
Can I review jaloom myself?
Yes. Once your order has been dispatched, you'll get an email inviting you to leave a review. We're glad of every review, critical ones too.
