The Sisalteppich Beige is a plain, flat-woven rectangle with a simple border, so it sits easily beneath a sofa or a coffee table without competing with them. It is woven from the same fibre as our other jute rugs, mixed here with a little cotton.

Jute and cotton, woven by hand in India

The surface is 80% jute and 20% cotton, woven on a handloom in India. Jute comes from the stalks of the Corchorus plant, grown mostly in India and Bangladesh, and it gives this beige rug its dry, natural feel underfoot. Warp and weft form both the pattern and the texture, which is why the weave looks so even. Underneath there is a felt backing with PVC dots.

Looking after the Sisalteppich in beige

Vacuum with the brush switched off and the suction turned down, as our care guide advises for jute, so the fibres don't roughen up. Blot a spill with kitchen roll straight away and scrape off anything that has dried before you vacuum it up. A non-slip pad keeps the corners flat. Keep water well away from it.
