What is the cream border rug made from?

This one has a pile of 80% jute and 20% cotton, on a felt backing with PVC nubs. Jute comes mostly from India and Bangladesh and is nicknamed the "golden fibre" for its brown-gold sheen. Here it is woven by hand in India on a loom, so it may differ slightly in size. We call the look sisal-style because the rug is made of jute, not true sisal.

How do I clean the cream rug without leaving marks?

Jute and water do not get on, so work dry. Mop up a spill with kitchen roll straight away, so no ring forms. Dried-on bits can be scraped off and vacuumed, and for a proper shake-out you can drape the rug over a banister. Cream jute should stay out of damp rooms, as it takes up a lot of moisture.
