Blue is easy to live with. It sits well beside white woodwork and natural oak, and the Gabbeh Uni carries it as one solid colour from edge to edge. Its low pile keeps the plain face flat enough for a dining room, where the chairs should still be on the rug when pulled back. On tiles or polished boards, lay an underlay beneath it.

All of it is wool, the 100% wool pile as well as the backing, woven by hand in India. Being handmade, the size may vary slightly, so read our sizing tips before you mark out a lounge or a bedroom. Its pure wool puts the blue Uni among our wool rugs, and it can lie over underfloor heating.

Keep the care guide to hand early on, when new wool sheds loose fibres that regular vacuuming takes away. Use scissors on a raised end rather than tugging it. A furniture dent in the blue wool lifts again after a light dab of water.
