Sheep's wool is a natural fibre, and here it makes up both the pile and the back, which places the black runner among our wool rugs. Woven by hand, its length can differ a little, so allow for that when choosing the right size for a hallway or the side of a bed. On smooth floors, put an underlay underneath. Its low pile keeps it flat in a bedroom or hall.

Blot any spill on the black wool with a light cloth, working inwards from the edge of the mark and never rubbing. Some loose fibres in the first weeks are normal, and rug care tips suggest regular vacuuming to settle them. Black wool with a stray thread just needs a snip of the scissors, not a pull.
