Flat weaving leaves crumbs and hair nowhere to hide, so they are easy to remove. Laid in front of the worktop, this kitchen runner gives your feet something soft to stand on while you cook. Black cotton, woven by hand

This cotton rug is made from 100% cotton, with a cotton backing too. It was woven by hand in India, and the structured pattern gives the black plenty of depth. Handwoven pieces can differ slightly from the stated dimensions. The black Mia shares its fibre with all our cotton rugs, which take dye well and are light enough to lift and shake. Suitable for underfloor heating, it can stay put in a warm kitchen all winter. As a hallway runner it also works well. Mark the hall with masking tape first and choose the right size so a little bare floor shows at each end and doors can swing.

Keeping the black Mia runner tidy

A light vacuum and a good shake are usually all it needs. If something is spilt on the black cotton, soak it up straight away and dab the mark with cold water, as our rug care guide recommends. A non-slip pad, cut slightly smaller than the rug, keeps the light weave flat and the corners down.
