Soft and matt, this blue cotton rug is woven on a handloom in India from 100% cotton, with a cotton backing too. Cotton takes dye well, which is why the Kelim Mia in blue looks so clear, and its mix of structure and kilim-style weave keeps the surface lively without shouting. Because it's flat-woven, crumbs and hairs lift off easily.

As a runner, it suits the hall as a kilim runner or sits in front of the kitchen worktop, and in a child's room it gives a play corner some colour. Every piece is handwoven, so the weave varies slightly from one to the next. Underfloor heating is no problem. The same design also comes in other colours: beige, brown, grey, green and orange. A light going-over with the vacuum, or a shake outdoors, is usually all the Mia needs. For small marks, dab with cold water and a mild cleaner, and read how to clean your rug before anything stronger. A non-slip pad cut slightly smaller than the rug keeps the ends flat.
