Soft, matt and a little rustic: the Kelim Chindi in taupe is a cotton rug woven by hand in India, and you can feel the weave as soon as you run a hand across it. Fine stripes in warm greys and browns run across the rug, finished with fringes.

Both the pile and the back are cotton, so like our other Cotton Rugs it feels soft and matt. The yarn is made from recycled cotton, and each rug turns out a little different in its colour mix. Flat-woven means a thin, light weave that is easy to move around.

Taupe is a calm colour that sits easily between cream walls, oak floors and darker furniture. In the living room, it works well in front of a sofa, and under a dining table the Kelim Chindi lets chairs shift without catching. As a kitchen rug it brings a bit of warmth to a tiled floor. For a nursery or playroom, this soft shade makes a calm alternative to brighter Kids Room Rugs. The shape is rectangular, and choosing the right size is easier if you tape out the floor first.

The same design also comes in beige, blue, brown, yellow, grey and green. Underfloor heating is fine.

For day-to-day care, our cleaning advice keeps it simple: shake it out and vacuum lightly, and put a non-slip pad underneath to keep the thin weave flat. Let it dry well after dabbing out any small marks.
