The living room is where this red circle belongs, in front of a grey sofa or beside a reading chair with a lamp. Red draws the eye. A round wool rug in this colour gives the room a warm middle.

Its pile is 100% wool and the back is wool too. Weavers in India made it by hand with a short pile. During the first few weeks the new red wool drops some loose fibres, which lessens each time you vacuum.

Among our living room rugs it brings a bold colour in a soft shape. Lounge or bedroom, a circle rug like this works beside a chair or the bed. On wooden boards or tiles, put a slightly smaller underlay beneath it so it stays in place. Over underfloor heating the wool lies well. Snip loose threads with scissors rather than pulling them, as the care guide advises. Dents from the coffee table usually rise when you dampen them lightly, and beating it from the back now and then airs the wool. If wine lands on the red wool, blot it straight away with a light cloth from the outside in.
