Run a hand across this white Gabbeh and you feel the wool straight away, springy and slightly matte, with a short pile that stays close to the weave. Wool all the way through, pile and back alike. It was woven by hand in India, and as a square wool rug in clean white it brings a calm block of light colour into a room.

Where the square white Gabbeh fits

Square shapes like square rooms and square tables. Below a round table it makes a quieter choice than a circle would. Picked as a dining room rug, it keeps the chairs on one soft surface. Among our living room rugs it suits a reading corner, framing an armchair in the lounge.

Handwoven white wool in daily use

Like all of jaloom's wool rugs, the white Gabbeh lets go of a few loose fibres in the first weeks, and that eases off with regular vacuuming. Being handmade, it can differ slightly from the listed size. Mark the spot with masking tape and check the size guide before you order. Laying it over underfloor heating is fine.

Keeping the square white Gabbeh fresh

Turn the square round every few months so sun and footsteps are shared out. On an underlay cut a little smaller than itself it stays put and the corners stay flat, as our care guide recommends for wool. Now and then, carry it outside, beat it from the back and let it air.
