The pile is 100% polyester on a cotton backing, woven by machine in China. Polyester is soft and colourfast, so the beige looks consistent. Spun very fine, the same fibre is what people call microfibre, and that fine yarn is what makes the long pile feel so soft under bare feet. The look is plain on purpose, with no pattern to compete with anything around it.

A rug pad cut slightly smaller than the rug stops it sliding about and keeps the edges lying flat. Combing the pile now and then keeps it from matting, and you can brush flat patches back up against the grain.
