Barefoot on a cold morning, this red Breeze is the first thing your toes find. It's a deep, soft shaggy rug, and a rich red is a brave choice for a lounge, a bedroom or a nursery corner. Among our synthetic fibre rugs it's one of the plushest.

Its pile is 100% polyester, machine woven in China on a cotton backing. Polyester feels soft and keeps its colour well. Because it's machine-woven, the surface looks even from edge to edge, and the plain, single-colour finish lets a sofa or bed stand out. Stand the front legs of your sofa and armchairs on it and the seating area reads as one group. It works just as well in a living room or a bedroom as it does as one of our kids rugs. The shape is rectangular. Our size guide helps you work out how much floor to cover.

Comb the pile upright now and then so it doesn't felt. Spills sit on polyester for a little while, so blot first, then dab with water and a drop of washing-up liquid, and go easy on the wet. Turn it every few weeks, and a pad slightly smaller than the rug keeps corners flat; more is in our rug care tips. Give it a light vacuum without a rotating brush each week.
