Dark brown is a forgiving colour for a narrow space, and this Breeze runner makes the most of it. As a hallway runner it gives a long stretch of floor a deep, even tone, and the soft surface is just as welcome beside a bed.

The pile is 100% polyester with a cotton backing. It is machine-woven in China on a jacquard loom, which keeps the plain dark brown surface clean and consistent from end to end. As with our other synthetic fibre rugs, the polyester takes up very little moisture, so a splash does not soak straight in. The pile is high, in the shaggy style, and it feels thick and soft under bare feet. Because it is plain, it never competes with the rest of the room. You can use it as a hall runner by the front door, or lay it along the side of the bed as a soft landing in the morning.

That is where the runner earns its place. The long, narrow shape it shares with our other runner rugs fits neatly beside the bed or between the bed and a wardrobe, which makes it a handy bedroom rug. A child's room can use it as a play strip, and as a nursery rug it gives a soft spot to sit on the floor. The Breeze also comes in beige, blue, cream, dark grey and green, so it is easy to match to a different scheme. The runner is suitable for underfloor heating. Mark out the floor with masking tape and it gets much easier to decide which size to pick for the dark brown runner.

How do I look after the dark brown Breeze?

Vacuum it without the rotating brush and turn the runner now and then so the pile wears evenly. Go easy with water, since a thick shaggy pile dries slowly, which our rug care guide also points out. A non-slip pad cut slightly smaller than the rug stops it creeping and keeps the ends from lifting.
