Description
Sunday lunch runs long, the dog stretches out under the table, and nobody hurries to clear the plates. Under that table, a red oriental rug makes the room feel settled and warm.
Hand-knotted red wool in Persian style
The Mir is knotted by hand in India from 100% handspun wool, with a wool back as well. Handspun yarn is a little irregular, and slightly different batches of wool can leave gentle shifts in the red. Those small variations, called abrash, are a normal part of a hand-knotted wool rug and give it depth. You'll recognise the Persian rug tradition in its pattern, made in India.
Where the red Mir looks at home
Laid under a dining table, this dining room rug frames table and chairs. Living rooms suit it in front of a dark leather sofa, and in a bedroom it lies beside the bed among our bedroom rugs. Short in pile, it suits underfloor heating. Several sizes are available, and our advice on rug sizes helps you plan around the table.
Looking after the hand-knotted red Mir
New rugs from our wool rugs shed a few loose fibres at first, and that settles with regular vacuuming. Snip any thread that stands up level with scissors rather than pulling, as our cleaning advice explains. Red wool flattened by a chair leg usually lifts again after a light dab of water.
