Barefoot on a cold morning, coffee in hand, you notice how much a rug can change a room. The blue Nain makes the floor feel settled, and its ornamental border draws the eye across the room.

Made from wool, it is built for rooms you actually use. In the living room, it anchors the seating area without taking over. Slip it under a bed and it does what good bedroom rugs should, giving your feet something soft to land on in the morning. The low pile also suits a dining room, because chair legs shift across it easily. The design also comes in cream and red, as well as runners, and the blue has the same natural fibre as our other wool rugs.

Every knot is tied by hand, so small variations in shade (abrash) may show, because the wool comes from different batches. That is normal for a hand-knotted rug. New wool also sheds a few loose fibres at first, and regular vacuuming soon helps with that.

Looking after the blue Nain

Dab spills with a light cloth rather than rubbing, and turn the blue Nain now and then so sun and footfall wear it evenly, as our care guide advises for wool. Beat it gently from the back every so often and air it outside; a thin non-slip pad underneath stops the corners curling.
