On the Calo, beige comes heathered, with lighter and darker threads mixed through the weave. That mottled tone goes with oak, cream sofas and warm grey walls, and it makes a calm beige rug for the living room.

Calo's pile blends 70% wool with 30% polyester on a wool backing, and the rug was woven by hand in India. On the loom, warp and weft build the heathered structure you see. Fresh from the loom, the wool may shed a few fibres, which fades as you vacuum. With its high wool share, it sits among our Wool Rugs.

Short pile keeps the beige Calo low and even. Bedrooms suit it, right beside the bed. Beneath a dining table it counts as one of our Dining Room Rugs, and it can lie over underfloor heating. Measure first with our size guide, as handwoven pieces can differ a little from the stated size.

Lay it on an underlay a little smaller than the rug, which stops it sliding, as explained under how to clean your rug. Turn it round from time to time so sun and footfall spread evenly. Beat it from the back sometimes.
