Picture a soft rug pooled at the foot of the bed, or a pale patch of warmth in front of the sofa where the kids end up playing. That is where the Silky in beige earns its keep. It is a plain, single-colour tufted rug with a soft surface, and the quiet sand tone sits happily beside oak, white walls or grey linen. It suits the lounge as well as the nursery, and it is the sort of beige rug you can build a whole room around without it shouting.

Beige Silky is 100% polyester microfibre, spun so fine that it feels almost silky underfoot, hence the name. Cotton forms the back. Each Silky is made by hand in India: the yarn is worked into a woven backing with a hand-guided tufting tool, and the underside is covered with fabric. It is suitable for underfloor heating, and the beige Silky is spun from the fine microfibre used in many of our Synthetic Fibre Rugs. The same design also comes in blue, brown, cream, grey, green and light grey. Mark out the space with masking tape and choose the size that lets the beige reach just past the sofa.

Because polyester takes on very little liquid, a spill on the beige Silky does not soak in straight away, so blot it with a clean cloth and use water sparingly. Our rug care guide recommends a wide-toothed comb for the shaggy pile so it doesn't mat. If the pile gets pressed flat under a bed leg, brush it up against the pile. Vacuum without the rotating brush.
