Several colours run through this multicoloured Gabbeh Vida runner, so a cushion, a throw or a picture frame can pick up any one of them. Matching is easy.

With its short pile, this low pile rug lies flat on the floor. Beside the bed it gives you a warm first step, and two of them, one on each side, frame the bed as a pair. Its long shape suits a hallway runner spot as well, and it sits among our runner rugs as one of the patterned ones. Over underfloor heating the Vida runner is fine.

Pure wool makes up the 100% pile and the back. It was made in India on a handloom, a loom where the weaver opens the shed with the feet and guides the weft through by hand, and it belongs with jaloom's wool rugs.

Being handmade, it can differ slightly from its listed size. Measure the space beside the bed or along the hall and find the length that leaves some floor visible at the ends, which keeps it looking like a proper hall runner.

Turn the runner round now and then so sun and footsteps spread evenly. A slightly smaller underlay holds it in place, as our care guide explains. Spills get blotted straight away with a light cloth, from the outside in.
