Woven by hand in India, flat and plain

Alia is handwoven in India from 100% jute, with a jute backing too. The weave is flat, with no pile to catch crumbs, and the colour is an even light brown throughout. Like all our Jute Rugs, Alia feels firmer and a little rougher underfoot than wool, which suits a room where you're on your feet a lot. Laying it over underfloor heating works too.

Why a circle works in the kitchen

A circle softens all the straight lines of worktops and cabinet doors, and it balances a square room nicely. Put it under a small round table, in front of the sink or in a breakfast corner. Keeping the light brown Alia tidy

Our care guide explains it in full, but in short: mop up spills at once with kitchen roll so no ring is left, and scrape off anything that has dried before vacuuming. To beat out dust, hang the rug over a railing. Jute likes to stay dry, so keep it away from wet floors and splashes.
