No pattern, no fuss: the Kelim Chindi Uni in purple is a single flat colour with fringed ends, and that plain surface makes it easy to place. Lay it in front of the sofa from our Living Room Rugs, beside the bed, or in a kids' room where the floor sees plenty of play. It also works as a kitchen rug, with a soft, quiet colour that suits the room.

This cotton rug is woven by hand on a loom in India, with a 100% cotton pile and a cotton back. Chindi weaving uses strips cut from leftover textiles, so the spread of purple shifts a little from one piece to the next. The weave is flat. It lies close to the floor and is suitable for use over underfloor heating. It's washable too: it can go in the machine at 30 °C. Several sizes are available, and finding the right fit is quicker with a strip of masking tape on the floor. It comes in other colours too, each woven from cotton strips like our other cotton rugs.

Lift spills with a cloth before they soak in, then dab with a little cold water and a mild detergent, just as the care guide advises for cotton. Let it dry thoroughly, and turn it over now and then. A grippy pad underneath keeps the light weave flat and stops the corners lifting.
