Soft and matt: the grey Kelim Chindi Uni runner is a flat-woven cotton rug, with cotton in the weave and on the back. Woven by hand in India on a handloom from strips of fabric cut from textile offcuts, the grey varies a touch from one runner to the next.

Without any pile it lies flat, which suits a hallway runner or a kitchen runner, and it sits just as happily beside a bed in a bedroom or in a child's room, where it works as one of our washable kids' rugs. The fringes finish the short ends. Underfloor heating poses no problem, and this one is machine washable. A rug you can wash is handy in the kitchen and the child's room. The same model comes in other colours too, each flat-woven in India like our other cotton rugs.

Wash the grey Chindi on its own at 30 °C and dry it flat, following our rug care tips for this runner. Small marks come out with a dab of cold water and a mild detergent, followed by a good drying. Turn it over now and then and give it a light vacuum or a shake.
