Description
Kitchens get the busiest floor in the house, with someone at the hob and crumbs dropping in between. A blue jute rug with a plain field and a border along the edge gives that space a bit of colour and a defined spot to stand.
Its flat weave is 80% jute and 20% cotton, woven by hand in India, which gives the surface a sisal look. Jute is firmer and coarser underfoot than wool, with a dry, natural texture. Below sits a felt backing with PVC dots. It shares its main fibre with our jute rugs.
No pile means crumbs and pet hair come off easily. That makes it a practical kitchen rug, one of our kitchen rugs in a strong blue. Beneath a table it works as a dining room rug, and in the lounge it lies in front of the sofa. Warm floors with underfloor heating suit it.
Several sizes are available. Mark out the floor with masking tape first and compare it with our advice on rug sizes.
Soak up any spill straight away with kitchen roll so no ring is left on the blue. Keep the surface dry, skip the steam cleaner and scrape off anything that has dried, as our rug care tips describe. A vacuum with the brush switched off is all it needs day to day.
