Description

Cooking, washing up, stirring a pan: the strip of floor in front of the worktop sees a lot of footsteps. This green jute runner is made for exactly that spot, and it would work just as well as a hall runner by the front door.

Flat weave, plain green with a border

The surface is flat, with no pile, so crumbs and hairs are easy to remove. The colour is a plain green, and a border frames the edge so the runner looks tidy on the kitchen floor. The same runner also comes in beige, blue, brown, cream and grey, so you can pair the green with another colour elsewhere in the home.

What this jute runner is made of

The surface is 80% jute and 20% cotton, woven by hand on a loom in India. Jute comes from the stalks of a plant and is renewable and biodegradable, which is part of why natural fibre rugs feel so earthy underfoot. Because it was woven by hand, it can differ slightly from the size you see on the page. A rug pad slightly smaller than the runner stops it sliding and keeps the corners from curling up.

Where it works in the house

The kitchen is the obvious home, and our Kitchen Rugs collection shows how other runners are used there. Down a hallway, the runner marks out the route to the door, so leave a gap at the wall and in front of doors to let them swing open. Jute does not like water, so it is not for bathrooms, and it is not meant for outdoor use. To plan the length, read our guide on choosing the right size.

Looking after the green runner

Vacuum on a low setting with the brush switched off, as set out in the care guide. Lift a splash of sauce or coffee off with kitchen roll straight away, so no ring forms. Should a spill ever dry onto the green, scrape it off and run the vacuum over the spot.
