Grey is the calm choice for a busy home. The Medina in grey takes the edge off bright kitchen tiles, lets a mustard armchair stand out and suits a child's room painted in pastels.

• Pile: 85% polypropylene, 15% polyester

• Low pile, vintage design

Jacquard machines weave the faded Medina pattern, which keeps its lines clean and even across the whole rug. With its blend of polypropylene and polyester, it belongs with jaloom's synthetic fibre rugs. Grey also has a place among jaloom's kitchen rugs, where a low pile rug like this lies flat in front of the units. Beneath a dining table, go for a format on which the chairs still stand when pushed back, and our advice on rug sizes shows how to measure. Kids' rooms work too.

Knowing how to clean your rug mostly means acting quickly on the grey Medina, since a spill stays on the fibres long enough to blot. Fit a grippy underlay a little smaller than the rug on smooth floors. Its short pile is happy with a brush-head vacuum.
