This runner is soft, matt cotton in grey stripes. Bare feet like it. It is handwoven in India on a handloom from strips of leftover fabric, 100% recycled cotton in all, so each runner turns out slightly different in how the greys are spread. As one of jaloom's cotton rugs, the grey Kelim Chindi can lie over underfloor heating.

In the kitchen it lies along the worktop as a kitchen runner. The shape doubles as a hallway runner, and a kids' room gets a striped strip beside the bed. Its grey lines put it among our striped rugs. Tape out the length and compare it with the size guide, leaving floor visible at each end.

The care guide suggests a light vacuum and a good shake for this runner. Small marks come off with cold water and a mild cleaner, dabbed rather than rubbed. With a rubber-backed underlay beneath it, the light weave stays flat.
