Description

Diamonds and leaves in deep red, repeated across the whole field: the Herati pattern is what you see first on the Bidjar. This is a hand-knotted wool rug in an oriental design, made in India, and the deep red suits pale walls as well as dark floorboards.

What is the Bidjar Herati in Red made of?

The pile is 100% wool, and so is the backing. Each knot is tied by hand into the warp threads, and the fringes at both ends are simply the ends of those warp threads. Like most new rugs of this kind, it may shed a few loose fibres at first. Regular vacuuming takes care of that. The red Bidjar Herati brings the classic look of oriental rugs together with the feel of pure wool rugs.

Which room suits a red Persian-style rug?

The red looks good in a living room, where it warms up a grey or cream sofa. In the bedroom, the rug sits under the foot of the bed and gives you something soft to step onto. Under a dining table it also works, as the short pile lets chairs slide back. The pile is short enough for underfloor heating. It comes as a rectangle, and advice on rug sizes will help you pick the right dimensions. The Bidjar Herati is also made in cream, and there are runners in both colours for a hallway.

How do you keep the Bidjar looking good?

Now and then, beat it gently from the back and let it air, and turn it occasionally so sunlight and footfall wear evenly, which is the main thing our rug care tips ask of a hand-knotted piece like this. If a drink goes over, press a light cloth onto it from the edge inwards and leave the spot to dry fully before anyone steps there.
