Jacquard looms weave this design, which is why the lines come out crisp and the pattern stays even from edge to edge. Polypropylene, a synthetic fibre, is dyed through, so the colour runs right through the fibre, and the rug suits a terrace as well as a dining table. Flatweave rugs like this one lie close to the floor, and chairs slide over the surface without catching. Try it as a kitchen rug, in the living room or under the dining table. It copes with underfloor heating too, and in an awkward room it helps to pick the size with masking tape on the floor first.

Cleaning the Deja

Polypropylene absorbs hardly any water, so a splash of coffee stays on the fibre for a while and you have time to blot it. Afterwards work over the spot with a little gentle soap in water, then dab with clean water, as our rug cleaning guide shows. A grip pad cut slightly smaller than the rug stops the corners lifting, and a brush-head vacuum is fine on this flat weave.
