Pasta water splashes over the edge of the pan while someone in socks pads past to the fridge. The blue Kelim Chindi Uni runner lies right there, along the worktop.

Washable at 30 °C, the blue runner goes into the machine by itself. Skip the dryer and spread it flat instead. That makes it a practical kitchen runner, and it is listed with jaloom's kitchen rugs. Beside a bed it brings a strip of blue to the bedroom, and the long shape also serves as a hallway runner. Measure with masking tape and compare against the size guide before ordering.

The runner is 100% cotton, woven by hand in India, with fringes at both ends. Cotton comes from the seed hairs of the cotton plant and takes colour well, which suits a clear blue. Like our other cotton rugs, this washable rug can go over underfloor heating. Being handwoven, it may differ a little from its listed size.

Small spots come out with cold water and a little mild cleaner, and the care guide asks you to let the cotton dry through before it goes back down. Shake it out by the back door and vacuum it lightly in between.
