Taupe sits between grey and brown, so it goes with cool white walls as easily as with warm oak.

Taupe cotton in the Chindi Uni runner

This cotton rug is 100% cotton, handwoven in India, with fringes at both ends. Cotton fibre grows as fine hairs around the seeds of the plant and accepts colour well. Like all cotton rugs we sell, the taupe runner can lie over underfloor heating, and its size can vary slightly because it is made by hand.

A pair of taupe runners for the bedroom

Two of these, one each side of the bed, give both sleepers a soft first step. Kitchens suit the taupe runner too, along the worktop as a kitchen runner, and it is listed with jaloom's kitchen rugs. Its long shape also works as a hallway runner. At 30 °C in the washing machine, on its own, the taupe runner can be washed, then dried flat and kept out of the tumble dryer. Mark the floor with masking tape before choosing the right size.

As our rug care tips explain, an underlay with some grip keeps the light weave flat. After washing or spot cleaning, let it dry through. Spill tea on the taupe runner and blot it from the outside in with a dry cloth straight away.
