Buying guide

Eighty centimetres across is about 2ft 7in. A small round rug of that size will not furnish a room, but by the bed, at the foot of an armchair or inside the front door it gives the floor a fixed point.

At this diameter the fibre matters more than the surface. Most designs are handwoven in India.

Fibres for a small round rug

  • jute: Nele in beige for the hallway, Alia also in blue, grey or white
  • wool: Gabbeh Uni in many colours
  • long pile: Silky, dense and soft, tufted by hand
  • a slight sheen: Ava
  • cotton: Kelim Chindi Uni in orange or yellow for a nursery

Alia's colours are quiet enough for pale floorboards and grey tiles alike. More jute circles are on our round jute rug page.

Keeping it in place

On a smooth floor a small circle slides quickly. Cut a non-slip underlay into a round and it stays put, even when a child runs across it in socks on a Sunday morning.

Vacuum it like any other rug. Jute stays dry.

Larger diameters

In front of an armchair, the 100cm round rug gives a little more room. With a side table as well, go for the 120cm round rug. For a play area, the 150cm round rug. Every size is on our round rugs page, and lighter shades for small rooms are under cream rug.

Frequently asked questions

Is jute hard by the bed?

For two steps in the morning it is fine. To stand barefoot for longer, pick wool or long pile.

Is Silky handmade?

Yes, it is tufted by hand in India.

Does it work with underfloor heating?

According to the product pages, the jute, wool and long-pile designs at this size do.

Which one for the hallway?

A jute design. It is low, so the door opens over it.
