Dark diamonds on a pale ground, zigzag lines, sometimes a fringe. That is what most people picture when they look for a berber rug. The pattern comes from Morocco, where Berber women traditionally knot their rugs by hand.
Is this a hand-knotted berber rug?
No. Our designs borrow the pattern but are machine-woven in Turkey. We do not sell hand-knotted rugs from Morocco, and we would rather say so up front.
Long pile for sitting on
Five of the six lines are polyester with a long pile, comfortable for sitting on the floor in front of the sofa. Eddy comes in white or beige and also in black, as a rectangle, a square, a circle or a runner. Fiona is white with a fringe at each end. It looks soft. More soft designs are on our shaggy rug page.
Which room suits the pattern?
A graphic black and white design needs calm around it. A plain sofa, simple curtains, pale wood. Nothing more. With rattan and linen you get close to a boho rug look. Enya and Linn are white too, and more pale shades are on white rug.
Flat pile for desks and doors
Gusto is grey and low, with a vintage feel. A desk chair rolls over it and doors clear it. Edda, in grey with a fringe, keeps the long pile. Other flat designs with a worn look are on vintage rugs, and for the hall Eddy also comes long, like the others on runner rug.
