North-facing rooms rarely get enough light. Repainting helps only so much, and a yellow rug on the floor often does more. Yellow reflects. It looks sunny even on grey days. Seventeen designs are in stock, almost all handwoven, and one of them in gold.

Where a yellow rug makes the biggest difference
In a hallway with hardly any daylight. A yellow runner is often the quickest change there, in lengths between 60 x 180 cm and 80 x 400 cm. Under the coffee table, yellow gives a grey seating area a clear focus, and sofa-friendly sizes are collected under living room rugs.
And in the children's room? The colour works well. Building blocks also stand more steadily on a flat kilim than on dense pile.
Next to the bed, yellow greets you warmly in the morning. Some beige in the bedroom softens it, so it feels less bright first thing.
Cotton or wool in yellow
Both materials appear about equally often, and only two designs are synthetic. The cotton kilims stay flat. One is plain. The other is made from strips of recycled cotton fabric, which many people search for as a yellow rag rug. Wool is noticeably softer and warmer. Its fuller pile belongs where people walk barefoot. For more in this fibre, see wool rug.
The largest size is 240 x 340 cm, so a large yellow rug for an open-plan room is possible too. Round ones exist as a kilim and in wool.
Mixing yellow with other colours
Grey and white get on well with yellow, and so do dark blue and pale wood. A yellow runner beside a navy front door looks cheerful rather than loud.
Building a warm colour family across several rooms? An orange rug strengthens the warmth, while a red rug adds more power. Earthier still is a brown rug. More playful, in the room next door, is a pink rug.
Frequently asked questions
Do stains show on yellow?
Dark crumbs do. Dab stains straight away with clear water, and kilims can also be shaken out outdoors.
Is the yellow wool rug available as a runner?
Yes, both wool designs come as runners.
Is gold the same as yellow?
Not quite. Gold is a little darker and warmer, and there is one design in it at the moment.
Which sizes are there?
From 60 x 90 cm to 240 x 340 cm. The most common are 120 x 170 cm and 160 x 230 cm, both good under a coffee table or a small seating group.
Is yellow too bright for a bedroom?
Not with beige or white around it. If you are unsure, start with a runner beside the bed.
