Two armchairs facing each other with a small round table between them. That conversation corner needs about 2.25 square metres, which is exactly what a 150x150 rug covers.
Rooms for a 150x150 rug
- a bay window, where the square follows the shape of the glass
- an open-plan living room, to set a reading spot apart from the sofa
- a teenage bedroom, in front of the desk so the chair rolls on the rug rather than the floorboards
Breeze is a machine-woven shaggy from light grey to black. Eddy is white and bright, although a coffee spill shows sooner on it. For other ideas in that room, see bedroom rugs.
Wool or jute
Gabbeh Uni is handwoven wool from India and comes in many colours, green and pink included. On cold stone tiles you feel the difference with the first step. Nele and Nala are beige jute, handwoven too. Jute is firm. It stays flat. A desk chair rolls over it without catching, which matters in a teenage bedroom where the chair moves fifty times a day and the floor underneath is new laminate.
Turn the square a quarter every few months so sunlight and footsteps do not always hit the same edge. A size smaller is the rug 120x120. As a rectangle, compare the 120x170 rug, the 120x180 rug and the rug 140x200. Beside a single bed, a small rug may do.
