Buying guide

Blue calms things down. You notice it most in busy rooms, a living room with children or an open dining area. A blue rug adds depth to the floor there without shouting. Of the forty-five designs available, most show a classic mid blue, joined by dark blue, mint and a single light blue.

Material and make in blue

Synthetic fibres account for almost half. Wool and cotton follow in equal numbers, with a little jute and viscose. The cotton kilims stay very flat. One of them uses strips of recycled fabric, a look many people know from rag rugs. Wool comes handwoven, plain or patterned, its pile full and soft. Want wool in another colour? Try the wool rug collection.

Fancy something fluffy? A blue shaggy runner in polyester has a deep pile. Deep enough to sink your toes into.

Combining shades of blue

Almost any shade goes with light wood, white and grey. Blue and grey together look cool and clear. Put a beige sofa in front and the same pairing turns fresh and friendly. Dark blue, close to navy, works with brass and cognac leather. Mint and light blue make small rooms feel airier.

Planning a blue rug for the living room? For sofa-sized formats, see our living room rugs. Torn between cool colours? Compare directly. A teal rug leans greener, a green rug looks more natural, and in a child's room a pink rug makes a soft counterpoint.

Which shape works in blue?

Just under half are rectangular. Runners come next, and a blue runner looks especially good in a white hallway. Round designs include diameters of 120 and 200 cm, so a round one can go under the kitchen table. Only two are square.

The runners go from 60 x 180 cm up to 80 x 400 cm. In the hall, about 15 cm of bare floor at both ends makes the corridor look calmer and keeps the front door from catching.

Frequently asked questions

Does dark blue show every crumb?

Light dust and fluff, yes, more than mid blue does. Regular vacuuming keeps it under control.

Do you have blue wool rugs?

Yes, a plain handwoven design with a fuller pile and a patterned one.

Which blue runner is the softest?

The shaggy runner. The cotton kilim runners are flatter and easier around doors.

Will blue fade in the sun?

There is no information on that. In general, any rug lasts longer if it does not lie in full midday sun all the time.

Is there a light blue?

One design in light blue, plus three in mint. Most are a classic mid blue.
