White linen, pale wood and a few green plants look fresh beside the square turquoise Gabbeh Uni. Under a round breakfast table, a square makes a calm change from a circle. Beside the bed, it joins jaloom's bedroom rugs with a low pile that stays flat, and a lounge or dining room suits it too.

This square wool rug has a 100% wool pile and a wool backing, both woven by hand in India, so allow for small differences in size when choosing the right size. Wool does not melt and is slow to catch fire. It suits underfloor heating, and its single even colour makes it easy to place.

Every so often, take the turquoise square outside, beat it from the back and give it some air. Turn it occasionally. An underlay a little smaller than the rug, as the care guide advises, keeps it from sliding. Its corners then stay flat.
