Black is a bold choice for a floor, and a thick shaggy pile makes it feel soft rather than severe. This round rug suits a grey sofa, pale wood or a bedroom with white bedding.

• 100% polyester pile, cotton backing

Because the Breeze is woven on a jacquard machine, the surface is even from edge to edge, with a clean, even black. Polyester makes it a synthetic fibre rug, and as a circle it breaks up the straight lines of a room. Set it under a coffee table in the living room, beside the bed as a round bedroom rug, or in a nursery, where a round shape becomes a play island for bricks and picture books. Tape the circle out on the floor before choosing the right size.

Polyester is colourfast. It soaks up very little, so a spill sits on the fibre for a while and you have time to blot it. Then go over the black pile with a little soapy water, as our guide on looking after your rug advises, using water sparingly. A non-slip pad slightly smaller than the rug keeps edges flat, and the vacuum should run with the brush bar switched off.
