Description

Picture the space between the sofa and the window, where a rectangle would feel too boxy. That is where the Nele in beige belongs, a soft oval that sits happily in a lounge, under a dining table or on the kitchen floor. Open-plan layouts and awkward corners often look better with a curved edge, and this oval jute rug gives you one without any fuss.

What does the Nele look like on the floor?

Plain beige, with a loose boho feel. There is no busy pattern, just the natural grain of the fibre and a flat surface that lies calmly. It pairs well with wood, rattan and linen. For a different shape or shade, the same design comes in taupe and anthracite, as a rectangle and as a round rug.

Can you really use it in the kitchen?

Yes, as long as the spot stays dry. Plenty of people want a kitchen rug that is flat enough for chairs and doors, and the Nele fits that brief. Woven flat by hand in India, with a pile of 100% jute on a jute back, it feels firmer and rougher underfoot than wool. Jute needs a dry spot, so keep the rug well away from the sink and the dishwasher. The oval is also fine for a dining area, and it is suitable for underfloor heating. A look through the Jute Rugs collection shows how this one compares with other natural weaves, and our Boho Rugs have a similar relaxed mood. When you are choosing the right size, remember that the rug should be big enough for the chairs to sit comfortably on it.

How do you look after the beige Nele?

Keep it dry. Vacuum with the brush switched off and the suction turned down, and a few loose bits at the start are normal. If something spills, lift it off at once with kitchen roll and scrape away anything that has dried on, then vacuum up the crumbs. Steam is out. More detail is in our cleaning advice. A rug underlay, a little smaller than the rug, stops it slipping and keeps the corners from curling up.
