Mauve sits somewhere between dusty pink and soft grey-purple, which makes it easy beside cream walls, pale oak or a grey sofa. This flat-woven cotton rug is plain apart from the fringed ends. It suits a living room, a bedroom, a kitchen or the kids' room, and it comes in several sizes, so which size to pick mostly comes down to the space you have.

The Kelim Chindi Uni Mauve is woven by hand in India on a handloom from strips of fabric cut from textile offcuts. The colour spread therefore falls slightly differently from piece to piece. Pile and back are both cotton, and the weave is light and easy to move about. It is fine on underfloor heating. The same rug also comes in white, beige, blue, brown, yellow and grey, each one a flat-woven cotton rug from India.

This one can go in the machine at 30 °C, on its own, which is rare among cotton designs, so caring for the mauve stays simple. Between washes a quick vacuum or a shake outdoors does the job, and a grip pad underneath keeps the thin weave lying flat.
