Two chairs, a little table, and suddenly the corner of the balcony is a place for morning coffee. A round outdoor rug marks out that spot from the rest of the floor without swallowing much space.
Ours are machine-woven from 100% polypropylene. That is a plastic fibre, and on these round outdoor rugs it lies very flat. The round rugs are made as indoor-outdoor rugs, so they are just as happy inside the house.
Most of them are beige. Cream is there too, as is dark blue and one multicoloured pattern. On grey paving the dark blue looks cool, while beige suits wooden decking and rattan.
Which round outdoor rug for balcony and terrace?
Measure the free depth between wall and railing first. Planters on the floor? Then space gets tight, and a small round outdoor rug of Ø 90 cm or Ø 100 cm is more relaxed than a big one curling up against the boxes. For a bistro table with two chairs Ø 120 cm works, because the chair legs should stay on the rug even when someone pushes back to stand up.
On the terrace you can go bigger. Much bigger. A large round outdoor rug of Ø 160 cm sits under a round seating group or in front of the lounge chairs, and that is the largest diameter in this range. The same size in other materials is on our 160cm round rug page.
Inside once summer is over
Indoors the flat weave works under the kitchen table or in a conservatory. Doors swing over it and chairs glide easily. When the garden furniture goes away in autumn, the rug can come in and spend the winter under the dining table instead of lying rolled up in the shed. Ideas for the seating area inside are collected under living room rugs.
Other shapes might suit your space better:
- a round jute rug for indoors only, since natural fibre takes up moisture
- a rectangle rug along a long, narrow balcony
- an oval rug under a garden bench
- a square rug in a loggia
Frequently asked questions
How do I clean it after the summer?
Vacuum or sweep off loose dirt. Treat stains with lukewarm water and a little mild detergent, then let it dry completely.
Can I fold it for storage?
Better not. Roll it up when it is dry and it gets through the winter without creases.
Is there a Ø 60 cm?
No, the smallest diameter is 90 cm. Even on a tiny balcony that often fits, if only one chair stands there.
Can I use it indoors as well?
Yes. It was made for both, and the flat weave sits nicely under a kitchen table.
