Buying guide

Six and a quarter square metres. A rug 250x250 holds a whole seating group, sofa, two armchairs and coffee table included. In a room that is nearly square, a large square looks calmer than a long rectangle.

Two designs in 250 x 250 cm

  • Nele, beige jute handwoven in India, firm and slightly rough under bare feet and happier kept dry
  • Gabbeh Uni, handwoven wool in many colours from white to black, warm on a stone floor

Jute sits well with pale oak and rattan. For more wool designs, browse our wool rugs.

Under a square dining table

Allow about 60 cm around the table on every side. On a 250x250 rug that means a table up to roughly 130 x 130 cm, and the chairs stay on the rug even when someone pushes back to clear the plates.

Measure the room at its narrowest point. Then take off 60 cm. If what is left is close to two and a half metres, this square will fit with a strip of floor showing around it, which keeps the room from feeling crowded.

When another size suits better

A wide room with a corner sofa may want the rug 250x300. The classic living room size is the 200x300 rug. More compact are the rug 200x250 and the 170x240 rug. For a reading corner in the same room, add a 150x150 rug. All our ideas for the lounge are on rugs for living room.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need two people to unroll it?

It helps. Unroll it in the room where it will lie.

Is Nele soft?

Not really. Jute is firm and grips well, pleasant barefoot but not plush.

Which colours does the square Gabbeh come in?

Beige, white, grey, black, blue, turquoise, green, yellow and pink. Not every colour is in stock in every size.

How do I clean jute?

Dry. Vacuum it and blot spills without soaking the fibre.
