Hand-spun wool knotted by hand, or jute woven by hand. Both come as a rug 250x300, and they have almost nothing in common.
The format is nearly square, roughly 8ft 2in by 9ft 10in. It suits living rooms that are wider than they are deep, where a long rectangle would look like a strip in front of the sofa. With a corner sofa, both sides rest their front feet on it.
Jute or wool for a 250x300 rug
Nele is handwoven jute. Jute is firm and natural, at home in a Scandinavian scheme with oak and pale walls. Crumbs stay on the surface and come up with one pass of the vacuum. Tabriz Mahi is knotted by hand in India from hand-spun wool, so the colour shifts slightly across the pile. No two pieces look quite alike. More sheep's wool designs are on our wool rugs page.
Under a dining table, allow about 60 cm on every side. That leaves room for a table up to around 130 x 180 cm. On wooden floors a non-slip underlay keeps a rug of this weight from creeping when chairs are pulled in and out at every meal.

Once a year, half a turn. Wear from footsteps spreads more evenly. It is easier with two people.
