Gray Rugs
Grey doesn't push itself forward. It lets the sofa and the pictures on the wall do the talking, and it forgives daily life, because dust shows less on it than on cream. Our shades range from light grey and mottled grey to dark grey and anthracite.
Synthetic fibre is the most common material, with wool close behind. Cotton and jute come next, plus a handful in viscose.
Small rooms gain space from light grey. Dark grey needs space and light. On a large wooden floor, though, it looks calm and grown-up, almost like a shadow under the seating group, and lets pale furniture stand out more clearly.
Which Colours Suit a Grey Rug?
A grey rug for the living room goes with almost any sofa. It gets interesting once you add wood. Grey and beige together make a soft, modern look, while cream and grey feel lighter still. Like contrast? Put grey next to black, and browse our black rug range for the darker designs.
Colour makes grey glow. Yellow cushions or a petrol armchair, and the room comes alive. Grey and yellow is a classic pairing, whereas blue and grey stays cooler. Want a coloured rug instead? Look at a green rug, a teal rug or straight away a colourful rug. Light grey rugs in the bedroom keep things quiet.
Shapes, Sizes and Materials
Circles are particularly common in grey, from Ø 60 cm up to three metres across. A round grey rug works under a bistro table or in front of a reading chair. Rectangles start at 40 x 60 cm and go up to 300 x 400 cm, so a large grey rug for a whole seating group is easy to find. Grey runner rugs reach six metres. Looking for 200 x 300 cm? You usually land on 200 x 290 cm, a difference nobody sees once it is down. More sizes for sofa and armchairs sit with our living room rugs.
And the material?
- Wool: handwoven gabbeh styles with a fuller pile, plus flatter qualities, with more among our wool rugs
- Cotton: kilims that barely add height
- Sisal look: jute blended with one fifth cotton, also round or as a runner
- Synthetic fibre: soft high pile, flatwoven designs and rugs for outdoors
- Jute: the anthracite shade, with a short pile
Frequently asked questions
Does grey show stains?
Less than cream or white. Dark grey forgives more, light grey shows a bit sooner.
Does grey go with oak flooring?
Very well. The warm wood balances the cool grey.
Are there grey runners?
Yes, in wool and cotton, and also in the sisal-look blend or synthetic fibre, up to 600 cm long.
Will it work outdoors?
Only the outdoor designs in polypropylene. They absorb hardly any water and can go on a balcony or patio.
